If you love the instrumentation on this album, you should check out Sybyr's ANTI-WORLD II. It has similar pop appeal while still having artistic integrity.

Trapped in your own mind as the world closes in around you, the sisyphean struggle to better yourself and not give into the darkness of your past, the sober awakening of a cold run on a misty winter morning, thinking you’ve made a breakthrough only to find your own reflection staring back at you. No doubt one of NIN’s best.

this album was released on May 3, 2005, nothing on this album was "mainstream sound" back in 2005??? 2005 was a year dominated by rap music, hip-hop and pop divas. gwen stefani, black eyed peas, 50 cent, mariah carey, chris brown... and even if they were doing a "mainstream sound", what does it matter? the important thing is the music being good, and it is.

Mainstream alternative metal sound, idiot. This album is not what people expected. Past albums were noisy, industrial. And this is alternative metal with industrial elements, that's what's mainstream for such a group

While I didn't like this album at first, after some relistens I am in love with this album. It's not at the level of the first 3, but Trent managed to make some good ass industrial/alternative rock here without sacrificing the music in a way that doesn't make it feel inauthentic, watered down or bland despite being more accessible or mainstream. I don't know man, it grew on me.

I did not like this album as much until after i bought it on vinyl. i like with teeth way more after re listening to it countless times via the vinyl player and the album has a pretty good change because of the vocal choices trent uses throughout the album that it can be quite funny or surprising if you are a long time listener.

It’s not my favorite NIN album, but it has some of, if not my favorite NIN songs, like all the love in the world, live is not enough, everyday is exactly the same, only, sunspots, beside you in time, and right where it belongs, which is a perfect closer

People really seem to hate this one for no reason apart that it's a more rock version of industrial, aka a harsher, less experimental work with some electronic bangers. Like it's a more generic version of something NIN used to do in the past. Which is true, however some songs are superb. Sure, i like some of the later stuff more which is easier to listen to, and the stuff before that also too. But this is right down in the middle of a killer album. No matter how much people praise The Downward Spiral, for me that album is one singular point in the entire discography that is the "odd one out". Of course, it's a good album, don't get me wrong. It's just super harsh compared to the rest of the discography. Especially since the first album has pop hooks and rap-esque seqments.

One thing I noticed is that’s allot of bands follow the same pattern with their albums. With NIN they had Pretty Hate Machine as the debut album that established their style but was still rough around the edges, The Downward Spiral as the breakthrough album that made them famous and is usually considered their best, The Fragile is the sprawling double album that alienated some people, and the With Teeth is the more focused album that returns to the earlier sounds but from a more mature perspective. Radiohead, The Beatles & The Clash are other bands I can think of that followed a similar pattern.

Reminds me of smashing pumpkins. Gish being the album that established their sound, Siamese dream being the breakout album, mellon collie is the double LP that progresses their sound, ETC. The only difference is the last one where it goes back to earlier sounds. SP went pretty far from Gish by the time the Adore era came around.

I think this album could be a bit better if Trent went with the Bleedthrough concept that was initially planned for it and did not scrap it, but I enjoy it a lot nonetheless. A Bleedthrough-like concept was explored in NTAE and Add Violence micro-ARGs, and, ironically, was also scrapped when they were making Bad Witch which was supposed to tie the story together. Anyway, there's a lot of cool distortion and delay shit going on in here. And also good songwriting. I mean, the cascading walls of guitars on Beside You In Time are really something. I wish this album had more stuff like this, lyrically and sonically and would tie together in a story. But with songs like All The Love In The World, Only, Beside You In Time, Right Where it Belongs, Sunspots, The Collector, Love is Not Enough and pretty much everything else I can't even try to say this album is not fucking great.

While I still think With Teeth is not as good as their first 3 albums, I can't complain. It's filled with bangers and they don't take away the industrial sound of NIN that it feels bland, Trent did a great job here, though I feel like Year Zero gets the "odd one out" treatment way more, not to mention it's reception is more mixed

Great, aggressive rock album with a lot of interesting moments, a lot of catchiness and hooks, plenty of heaviness. While it is probably the most rock-centric album it is still an Industrial Rock at its core.

Of course it can't be the follow up to The Fragile which was an abstract project, and probably NIN's best work and my personal favourite. But as a standalone album, it's good. The Slip and Hesitation Marks expanded on this idea and became better. I still think this is a solid record with nice hooks.

Friendly reminder that this album was originally called "Bleedthrough" until Trent realized that such a title had menstrual connotations.

Their most underrated album. Don't understand why so many people rank it as NIN's worst.

Because it was recorded as follow-up to the fragile and people expected that next album will be even better. And let's be honest - With Teeth is worse, still good, but not brilliant, and the real reason why so many people felt disappointment was fact that it was just rock record. I still remember this feeling of disappointment when i was listening to this for the first time from the cd i luckily bought day before official release back in 2005. Oh sweet times when you thought that new album from favourite artist is the most important thing in the world!

I see it as Trent coming back as... Himself. Not a character. Not a concept. After 6 years, he obviously had lots of things to say. He had had writer's block, he had gotten clean, I believe this was also the point where he met the woman who is now his wife... I've always liked this one. I'd even dare say there are gems on here, particularly "The Hand that Feeds," "Sunspots," and "Right Where It Belongs." It was also actually the first NIN album I bought for myself as a fan.

I'll always love TDS and The Fragile, but I think as I've gotten older this might've become my personal favourite NIN album. I think it's because the lyrics seem to relate more to struggles I've been facing as an adult than the lyrics of TDS and The Fragile do. Plus The Line Begins to Blur->Beside You in Time->Right Where It Belongs is an absolutely killer ending. Also, too, Dave Grohl.
