“Best Days” is the first single proper from Lissie’s fourth studio album, Castles, released on January 19, 2018.
Lyrically, the song is a frank and open lookback on her life to date and a song of hope for the future: she recalls her move to California and subsequent relocation to a farm in Iowa, while also awaiting what life has to offer her next.
With a steady career built on live performances and a small but dedicated fanbase, Lissie no longer strives for massive commercial success but instead pines for longevity and legacy. After being dropped by Sony following her second album, Back to Forever, her expectations of success were renewed. She told the Quad-City Times about her aspirations for the future: "I do want to share my music with the world. I’d almost rather have a long career that grows slowly than one big explosion of fame and success. I’d love to be one of those musicians who at 65 or 70 can still show up with an acoustic guitar and sing my songs to people who want to hear them."
