Jan 2 2010, 1h24 por menslarIt's that time of year again. I've always loved keeping track of my own top musical acts and tracks, and I'm so glad I have last.fm to make it easy.
As in years past, I'm also listing the top track(s) and top album(s) for each artist in my top 50, and the position those tracks and albums attained in my charts for 2009. If you see some tracks with the same position number (likewise for albums), it's because they were tied for that position.
As usual, I listened to a mix of new and old music in 2009. Some of it was new to me, but released a few years ago. Some of it was released this year. And there are always some favorite oldies on my charts.
The past two years, Fefe Dobson was my top artist. This year, she's not even in the top 5. I decided to give Sunday Love a break and listen to some other stuff. Which artists topped Fefe this year? Which artists earned the top spots on my 2009 artist, album, and track charts? Read on to find out!
#50: Amy Macdonald 146 plays
Top track: Let's Start a Band track #183
Fev 12 2009, 8h19 por menslarI'm past due on posting my list of my top 50 artists for 2008, but here they are, along with the top track for each artist and/or the top album, according to how the artist also fared on my top 500 tracks or top 500 albums charts for 2008. For tracks or albums mentioned, I also give the number of plays for each and where they placed on my top 500 tracks or top 500 albums charts for 2008.
All data was taken from my 12 months charts on last.fm as they stood on December 31, 2008. There is a little fudging because the tags of some tracks were changed or fixed during the year. This scrobbling thing is not an exact science, as it depends on you having your tags all correct. Subscription or download services don't always have the same tags as each other, and sometimes you have to enter the tags yourself, which is prone to error.
It was quite a mix for 2008. I found it interesting to compare my top artists list for 2008 with the list for 2007.

Mar 23 2008, 2h17 por idiotsdreamNow, on my overall albums chart (depending on what day you'll look at this), you will notice that there is a gap between 48 (Madonna's Something to Remember album) and #50 (Kylie Minogue's Hits +)
The reasons for this aren't clear,so this means that instead of my album chart going down to 100, it instead goes to 101 (squeezing in Goldfrapp's Black Cherry).
One possible album that may invisibily be taking that place is the lovely Dragonette and their only album, Galore. When i got momentarily obsessed with them last October, i played Galore quite a bit and as such, expected to see it as my #1 album on the week of October 7th.
There is no number one!!! I certainly haven't seen that before, nor haven't since. If you look a bit down that list, you will see that I Get Around has charted at #18 with 6 plays, which i believe may have been from the remixes on the single, although the I Get Around single was…
Jan 7 2008, 19h32 por FutureLoveThe feast of the Epiphany has come and gone. The Christmas decorations have come down. 2007 has drawn to a close and it’s time once again for me to note down my two-penneth worth about the musical highlights for anyone who’ll listen. It was actually a marvellous year in lots of ways, but a horrible year in others, but let’s not dwell on that. So, without further ado, here is my shorter-than-last-year-so-maybe-someone-might-read-and-comment rundown of the music that blew my skirt up this year.
The Top 5
5. This Delicate Thing We’ve Made
– Darren Hayes
I only discovered Mr Hayes this year after a friend of mine gave me a copy of his wonderful The Tension And The Spark album from 2004. I really wasn’t a Savage Garden fan, but his electronic dabbling on that album definitely piqued my interest in his musical output. This new album is a startling achievement – a double LP that truly takes you on a journey through time via a variety of musical styles. …
