I saw them live two times this year. Once at a festival and once at a club yesterday. Their performance was off the charts! They totally rocked the festival, but last night was like, one of the most magical nights I've ever had at a concert. It was unreal 🔥🔥🔥

Named after the G.I. Joe character? Baroness is a villain from the Cobra organization.

Definitely not the noble title used for a millennia that appears in the dictionary. Must be the G.I. Joe villain person character.

What an incredibly unique band. Their songs are extremely powerful! They are at the same time heavy and aggressive, and calm and relaxing.

Already listened to them before, but this new album I really liked and made me pay a little more attention to them. Great work.

now Strongly agreed man, there's only one song I like on Gold & Grey and Stone was all mid to my ears.

I feel like Stone is an extended play to Gold & Grey. You see, bland stones are grey colored?? Gold is my favorite flavor of John's painting also, I'm so biased of the color spectrum. But really, I think John really squeezed out his love on the Gold album. I really like honest bands like Baroness, they sing their heart out. There were so many pretentious albums out there, you know like those emo bands.

I love the new albums after a few listens, it's hard to judge yet, tho. Might take a while to really see if I still like it or not.

Ember, Magnolia, and Bloom were good tracks. I wont say it was a terrible album but none of the middle of the album really stuck with me, and Baizley's narrating like singing in Choir was just awful. Maybe it'll take another spin but this one probably their weakest since Green

nah Choir is best track on there. Baroness albums have been wack since y&g, at least this feels like a return to form.

Stone rules. Gold & Grey was solid but god that production was abysmal. So glad they didn’t work with Fridmann again.

Dave Fridmann should be tried at The Hague for what he did to that album. It was somehow bearable (although still not ideal) on Purple but Gold & Grey deserved better. Should’ve been recorded with Congleton, should’ve been two discs.

My first reaction on the first few listens was "wat", but Beneath the Rose has grown on me a lot. It's not what I expected, but it's great in its own right.

I try not to to spend much energy or time just being a h8r, but I have never heard a single Baroness song, or even more than 5 seconds of a single Baroness song, that has done anything other than bore me, make me wrinkle up my nose, raise a quizzical eyebrow or usually all three. On the rare occasion I try to give them another chance, I usually don’t even make it through a whole song. I do not understand what people hear in them, why the goofy frontman is a celebrity in the underground metal scene or why anyone ever called anything of theirs something “of the year.” Total yikes for me, top to bottom, dawg.

And I don’t regret posting this because anytime anyone spends reading it is time better spent than listening to Baroness. Also dude being in the intro to “You Will Never Be One of Us” alongside J Bannz is something I absolutely refuse to take seriously. What does a band that sounds like Pop Evil have to do with Nails and Converge pls?

new song is pretty good, gives me hope for the new album. thank god they have a new producer, though this one also has a weird tin can/lo fi sound yet in a different way that at least doesn't seem like white noise brickwalling. i'm eager to hear what awaits on the record, for me the only downside aside from the production is the somewhat monotone dragging vocals. but i really enjoy the guitar work on this

I wish you could block people on last.fm because the way you spell every band's name wrong is really irritating

You have a problem with the fact that they don't fit within pre-established genre boundaries? What a childish take.

Pre-established by whom? We both agree that they're not concerned with fitting into an established genre. Who do you think they're imitating?

I have to admit that Baroness are so much better than I prejudged them.. I was sure that there was nothing special left after "red" and "blue", I love these albums. but now, several years have gone by, I have come to love "yellow & green" as well, I actually regard them as a masterpiece. I can't wait to discover the other colors of their spectrum.

They were so good and then they became like some kinda rock band or something. Oh well, sic transit gloria mundi, we'll always have the EP's, Red and Blue!

If you disagree, that's up to you. I'm not trying to start a debate, i'm just saying that personally, all of their albums are appealing to me, for different reasons, they all touch a different spot, it's pretty hard to shit down an entire album just because it didn't fullfill what another album did. Each album serves their own purpose and delivers their own message, and they are also composed that way. So as I said, i'm not stifling anything, you're doing that, therefore i'm gonna leave your next reply unanswered, If you disagree, cool. You are entitled to feel however you feel.

Well, I certainly don't think I'm stifling anything about any parts of Baroness' discog. I also don't think anyone should be "shitting down" any of their albums just because they like a different album more, that wasn't what I was saying, I was just pointing out how discussing different opinions can lead to insight and discovery one wouldn't normally have found by going with the good ol'e "every single album is fantastic" option. A nuanced discussion while keeping it civil. Anyway, as you said, this reply will go unanswered by you, but I at least hope you will read it and that I've explained my first reply a little bit better and clearer. Have a good one, brother :)
