A group founded on May 26, 2009 to bring together fans of Joe Pug. Joe is a talented young folk singer out of Chicago, originally from Bowie, MD.

Early on, Joe was often likened to an early day Dylan, based on his acoustic sound, poetic lyrics and powerful stage presence. His EP was released in 2008, another was released in June, 2009, and his album, Messenger was released in February, 2010. His second album is due out this month (April, 2012). He has played Lolapalooza, SXSW and other major festivals, and has toured throughout the U.S., as well as in Europe. Give his songs a listen on Spotify. Joe often posts links to free downloads of his music. Share them in the shoutbox!

I saw Joe at the 930 Club in Washington, DC on June 2. As always, a great show. He did songs from his new album as well as the old favorites. Definitely a great live performer.

Email from Joe Pug: Friends, Today we're releasing a live album recorded at Lincoln Hall in Chicago last spring. It's seventeen songs- from Nation of Heat, In the Meantime, and Messenger- played with the band to our hometown crowd. Our live show has defined us for the last three years. If you subscribe to these emails, there's a good chance you've caught one yourself. So we had the whole night properly mixed and mastered, and we're offering it up at our website for only for 5 bucks. In a few months we'll release our next studio album, The Great Despiser. There are plenty of new songs to come, plenty of new shows to be played, and a whole new chapter that we look forward to in its due time. But it's been quite a wait since the last album, so here is Live at Lincoln Hall. It's what I consider to be a proper document of our last three years. Damn it's been fun. Yrs in music, Joe

Joe's latest newsletter, in four parts. Check it out... includes a link to free downloads. Friends, Thanks to everyone who caught a show on our epic, two-month sojourn across the country this spring. Your support and appreciation helped us through the marathon. I'm pleased to let you know that we just finished recording a new album. We had the great fortune of spending the last few weeks with producer Brian Deck in Chicago. I can't wait for you to hear the fruits of our labor. We're not sure of the exact release date yet, but we have some good surprises in store until then. More on that in next month's newsletter.

Meanwhile, see below for a few things we've been up to, including some free music, a new video, and some fantastic photos of the last tour. There's a few festivals on our upcoming calendar, and a string of shows in the pacific northwest in September. I'll also be playing in Austin, TX this weekend. Maybe we'll see you there. Thanks, as always, for your support. -Joe Pug

Part 3: Video for Speak Plainly Diana: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vnt8-X95xzo Check out the new video for Speak Plainly, Diana, which we put together with footage we shot over the last year. It's not a very glitzy affair, but a good snapshot of our life on the road. Free Music If you weren't able to catch the last tour, someone was good enough to record the show in Chapel Hill from April 11th. You can listen to the whole thing, and download it for free here: http://www.archive.org/details/joepug2011-04-11.sdb Jim Bennett Photos One of our favorite photographers, Jim Bennett, came out to shoot the Seattle show in May, and captured some great behind the scenes stuff, along with some gorgeous shots from the show itself. Duh! You're right! I'm afraid I'm not much of a LastFM expert... just love music and leave the Scrobbler on, mostly. Thanks for pointing that out.

Can it be that this group is not connected to Joe Pug? Cause when I look on the artist profile for Joe, I don't find this group listed!

Saw Joe at the Black Cat in DC Wednesday night. He performed both solo and with his "100 mile band" (electric guitar and acoustic string bass accompaniment). Excellent show with great energy. His set list: Nobody's Child, Lock the Door Christina, I Do My Father's Drugs, In the Meantime, How Good You Are, The Door Was Always Open, Call it What You Will, Hymn 101, Start Again (Harvey Thomas Young cover), Hymn 35, Nation of Heath, Speak Plainly Diana, Not So Sure, and Dodging the Wind. Strand of Oaks was the opening act... very nice performance as well.

Just downloaded and listened to the Austin concert. It's definitely the best recording out there of a Joe Pug show.
