After two crazy years on the road, the guys have gone back into the studio and come out with the fantastic new album to be released in early 2011, Dring Dring. During this studio time Ezechiel Pailhes and Nicolas Sfintescu gave their musician friends complete freedom, as title after title, recording session after recording session Nôze gradually became more of a "real" group with shifting and porous boundaries. It was a spontaneous process, which progressively became this album’s backbone and was an opportunity to express their gratitude to the worlds of jazz and improvised music, and highlight the talent of their faithful collaborators: Thibaut Frisoni (guitar), Alexandre Authelain (sax and clarinet), Matthias Mahler (trombone), Emiliano Turi (drums).
The music travels along the edge of house music, with a nod to other festive musical genres that cross their path such as Cumbia, Klezmer and Reggae. The jazzy and experimental ardour of the early days is now sustained by the demands and maturity of accomplished musicians and performers that made their success and fame. With this album, Nôze offer themselves at their quintessential best, where technical and musical virtuosity constantly share the limelight with the light-hearted but profound expression of joy, celebration and melancholy.
Having always performed electronic live sets as a duo, improvising tracks full of energy and absurdity, the development of this approach into a more orchestral set-up seemed natural. It features 6 musicians on stage (drums, piano, guitar, trombone, sax, vocals), all from different backgrounds but all with the same passion for improvised, jazz and contemporary music and a shared vision of translating electronic club music into a live orchestral performace. For the core duo of Pailhès and Nicolas it is an opportunity to represent another side of themselves where it isn't only the listener's feet that are engaged but also their hearts and minds. It also enables them to re-compose the music originally created in the studio on a stage setting and in a freer and more substantial way, endless in its possibilities.
The machines and programming remain central in the music and are as present as each and every musician during the performance. However, certain tracks are played instrumentally and consequently every musician is given the opportunity to improvise and express their own imagination, invention, craziness and indispensable liberty as an independent part of the group.
