wasn't so impressed by the new album at first but delving into the lyrics revealed such an evocative and thought provoking exploration of romanticism, mysticism, and existentialism. Schammasch do deserve a place among the top-tier bm bands in terms of lyrical depth and complexity.

I was aware the album's lyrics drew inspiration from Les Chants de Maldoror but hadn't read the book before. just looked at some sections on project gutenberg and found the parts you mentioned in the first song/CHANT PREMIER (for those interested https://www.gutenberg.org/cache/epub/12005/pg12005-images.html and I think "vieil océan" could also be translated as "old ocean"). my quick impression is that the book reads like some blend of Baudelaire and marquis de sade (in a less eccentric way) and it seems quite intriguing. maybe I'll have to get it to gain a deeper understanding too :).

I was initially disappointed that they're shifting towards a less dissonant and more approachable style in the new album. my reservations still linger, but I'm trying to keep an open mind and see if my appreciation for it will grow as I continue to listen. Triangle on the other hand remains a firm favorite of mine, with both its profound spiritual and metaphysical lyrical themes and the haunting soundscapes that never fail to transport me to another world <3.

Hm nope, a chorus is a part of a song which is repeated after each verse. If you mean the repitition of "They have found their master" after minute 8 or something, that's not a chrous as they just repeat the same words in one part. Also every song of each Maldoror Chants Album is the most prose-like lyricwise I have ever seen. :D

Definitely report back when you finished reading Lautréamont. I bought the book too because of the Hermaphrodite album. There are some enjoyable chapters, but I found the whole thing rather confusing. Maybe I'm not intellectual or experienced in surrealism enough though. x)

Honestly, the new album is AOTY for me. I even bought the book. Also I’m planning to do a review and upload it on my channel and later deep dive into the lore of Maldoror and how it is related to both Maldoror Chants albums. Don’t sleep on the album anyway

Ah, the poor soul on metal-archives.com who dared to besmirch the 3rd CD masterpiece that is on Schammasch's "Triangle." Let me tell you, their review must have been about as refined and insightful as a rock to the head. Clearly, they have the musical taste of a tone-deaf gerbil and the critical thinking skills of a half-wit. I pity the fool who can't appreciate the sheer brilliance and depth of this album - it's like they've got their head so far up their own backside, they've lost all semblance of good judgment. Next time, they should stick to reviewing children's pop music, because anything more complex than a nursery rhyme seems to be beyond their limited mental capacity. Truly, their review is a testament to the fact that some people should just stick to pressing the "play" button and leave the real music critique to those with a functioning brain.

Would add The Maldoror Chants: Hermaphrodite as it's quite atmospheric and a good album for just chilling in a dark corner. Only Sic Lvceat Lvx doesn't do anything for me.

I love it for its jesterish quality in the context of the album. The lyrics play an important role and really work in synergy with the music. They're really good on this album. Unlike from most bands where they're evocative, but ultimately nonsensical. I believe some might appreciate the whole package more after paying attention to the words. Not that I needed that, as it's catchy as hell.

Hearts of No Light is monumental, phenomenal. It is impossible to not listen through it from start to finish, and all that in a loop. I didn't expect them to surpass anything from their previous efforts, but they went ahead and did exactly that. HoNL is complex in so many levels that I can't basically describe what I'm listening to, yet... Thumbs up and hats off for Schammasch, can't wait for their concert alongside Enthroned this January.

Well said. It's probably their most melodic effort, yet it doesn't have any bad sides regular mdm has (general cheesiness); it's also most soulful record by them I heard (thanks for cleans on promo song, to which I come back more than often) and it has one of the most beautiful cover arts I've seen in latest years. Generally saying - AOTY pretender, making my Triad Schammasch-Mystifier-Blut Aus Nord.

The 2017 EP is quite a grower, even before I've seen their stellar live performance (a 1-hour-set as a support band - NICE!). Triangle was one of the rare cases where the 3 CD concept was actually good for something and kept growing from "great" to "amazing". I love how they have their home in black metal and naturally let dozen genres take over the songs. All grüezi the mighty Schammasch!
