Femdom, 11/11
4 Nov 2011, 02:47 by djgizmoe
With the morning spent cruising Kansai Gaidai's student festival (decent Wipers cover band, but nasty cabbage and hot dog 'tacos'), I cruised down to Socrates to rehearse for our Femdom event. Leila and Minako were there, and we did a run through of the performance before heading to Second House for some decent spaghetti (the cake looked good, but I was too stuffed to even consider it).
DJ Tama provided us with about 45 minutes of generic trance before the show. Maria was on first. Dressed in white (for a change), her set was basically vocoder and laptop noise. Leila and Minako changed into their clothes (Minako notable for her painted whiskers, black suit and cat tail).
Taking over from DJ Tama, I started Panther and the Virgin Meet and Leila and Minako started prowling around the crowd dancing; many of them did not initially notice that the performance had started. After Minako (the Panther) began to put her moves on Leila (the Virgin Mary), I rumbled into the mic, "Mary, I am an angel sent by God. … -
Getting Rid of the Albatross: Craig McDermott’s 20 Definitive Punk & Post-Punk…
23 Jul 2011, 14:20 by CraigMcDerm0tt
Getting Rid of the Albatross: Craig McDermott’s 20 Definitive Punk & Post-Punk Tracks, 1975-1980. Part I
Editor's note: Just discovered, to my utmost embarrassment, that Wipers' "Youth of America" was released in 1981, not 1980, thus disqualifying it from this list. As such, I'm adding it to the beginning here as a special honorable mention, and shaking up the list a bit while adding in the song's worthy replacement.
HM. Youth of America. The Wipers. Youth of America. 1981.
A ten-minute assault. Not that The Wipers waste any time getting to the point. The jaw-dropping opening line ("Youth of America/is living in the jungle/fighting for survival, but there's no place to go!") kicks so much ass it requires its own punctuation mark, a.k.a the most legendary single chord in punk history. The song's searing musical backdrop stuns in its ferocity. Not that it has any choice when it's setting the tone for lyrics like "they're trying to put you six feet underground!"… -
Playlist for Things that Are Square on KUCI 6/30/11
1 Jul 2011, 15:40 by Wormwood37
Fellow Americans,
Are you ready for the three-day Independence Day weekend? BBQ? Fireworks? Patriotic musical mixes that feature Miley Cyrus's "Party in the USA"? I was working on a menu for lunch at my parents' house on Monday, and it ended up involving micheladas and roasted corn with lime. Super patriotic, right? Hahaha.
Anyway, here's the music I played last night. Enjoy.
