Weezer's fifth self-titled album is known as The Teal Album to distinguish it from their previous releases. It was released, unannounced, in January 2019; after the critical and commercial success of their trio of Everything Will Be Alright in the End, The White Album and Pacific Daydream, the band were eager to maintain their productive and popular streak, and so set about writing and recording The Black Album. This was delayed many times, and is currently set to be released in March 2019.
A fan campaign in 2018 successfully got Weezer to record a cover of 'Africa' by Toto. This was well-recived by fans, and so the band set about recording a number of other covers of classic songs. The Teal Album, their first covers album, was released to satisfy fans in the run-up to the release of The Black Album.
