Since Gap Var Ginnunga every release sounds more and more like ''viking pop''. Although Yggdrassil and Ragnarok are very enjoyable albums, they simply miss this feeling of passage to another space and time that GVG gives. They sound too modern and too polished to create such atmosphere. Pretty sad, but it seems that Wardruna can throw one by one some epic-choir-with-deep-sounding-drums albums, that won't even differ from each other and people are still gonna like them all.
After first listen, new album is quite disappointing - but first, Yggdrasil is my love which is really hard to be overshadowed by anything, and second - remind that first listen can be misleading. Need to listen it more, maybe it will grow on me.
It's.. different. I'm quite ashamed to say, but I gave up on Wardruna for long time (it's like Ragnarok destroyed my will to listen - but it's nothing but coincidence) and it's quite difficult for me to say, but as I'm listening Ragnarok now, I feel much more "lighter" side of folk in it, which isn't that bad thing; I guess it's the result of my listening Daemonia Nymphe lately and Ragnarok's sound is somehow closer to them than in previous albums. In the end, I don't feel that disappointed as before, probably it's because my expectations left me, and now I can feel the album without any misleading suggestions. Still I need some listens more, I guess, but now at least you reminded me about Wardruna (thank you!), so it's just a matter of time.
