Venus CúMara is not one for predictable answers. Poetry is not just her passion. It’s her way of life. When asked where she is from she replies that she is from Love and that there is no-where else that she would want to come from.
Since a young child Venus has been inspired by the lives of the great masters, such as Jesus and the saints Bridgit and Francis of Assisi. Brigit’s life story was the first story she heard on her first day at school. Inspired by Bridgit's love and bravery and sense of justice for her people Venus decided that when she grew up she wanted to be a gentle but strong warrior woman like Bridgit. By the time Venus was to be confirmed into the Catholic Church at the age of 10 she had seen enough of the world to know which saint she would choose to be her guide through adulthood. Saint Francis’ life was very resonant with her own as they shared a deep love of nature and the same anti-capitalist views about how money was corrupting her fellow humans and creating a sense of inequality amongst the people.
Her family from an early age demonised Venus, as they perceived her gifts of healing and clairvoyance to be ‘evil’ and ‘sinful’. Their dislike of her made her question the world she lived in and only strengthened her resolve to be the Love she wanted to see in the world. Family pet dogs showed her love and taught her to Love forgive and play in nature as much as possible. Besides being with animals Venus found herself mostly alone talking to God, the saints and the angels about how found life in the world asking if she could help change the world to how she imagined it could be.
She ran away from home many times as a youth. She expected to leave home fully and begin travelling at the age of 12 but her mother threatened to have her locked up in an institution. She finally left home as a teenager to live the life, love and freedom she dreamed of. Like saint Francis she spent many years living simply and quietly, sleeping under the stars in beautiful forests, by oceans and on tops of hills and mountains. She found a mother who loved her and held her and fed and gave her a blanket of grass and a roof of starlight. Mother earth took Venus close to her heart. Venus had trouble reading but decided her life would be the book she would want to read.
Saddened by the injustices of the world she gave up her perfect hermit life and began to take her Love and Light to the cities and became more committed to Love than ever. She referred to herself as a love activist. Venus insisted that it was not a lack of food but rather a lack of love and respect that any of our people are starving to death in today’s world. That the human race could potentially be a humane race if we were to step away from the value of money to the value of Life. She insists that we have not come here to discover our financial worth but rather our true worth. She cries when she thinks that we are a race of people who allow the people who represent us to invest in killing people rather than caring for them. Something must be done, to readdress the love of power over the power of Love, Venus say. Peace is the by-product of Love and we all deserve to live in peace.
She traded in her gift of healing for the less exclusive gift of poetry so that she could get to more people in one go. Her poetry inspires deep peace in the listener and although she is constantly compared to the great master poets she insists that there is only One Poet and it is from here that all poetry arises, to heal our aching hearts in this world of greed and confusion. She performs all over the planet, bringing peace and healing with her words to all who hear her. I’m so honoured to be a transcriber of the One Poets works of art.
Venus started a global movement called Reclaim Love, which unites people all over the earth with a common prayer for peace. Presently Venus is involved with the Occupy movement that is taking place worldwide to overthrow greed and inequality. More than ever it is obvious that we must begin to build for the children of tomorrow on lasting foundations. The only foundation strong enough in this world is Love for all of Life. We need to replace the old failed systems with a system that is based on Love, Truth, Caring and Equality for our species to survive and be strong, vibrant, peaceful and happy. The Occupy movement has given Venus the faith that the inhabitants of this planet are about to wholeheartedly receive the Love Respect and Care they deserve. Venus says that this Occupy movement is Reclaim Love in action and that its up to all of us remember that if peace on Earth was declared right now we would quickly see that its up to each of us to keep it that way. Each though word and action plants a seed. Together we must plant this garden of Love upon the Earth
