'As Yours Turns Into Mine' was written to accompany the novel 'Kolja' about a deaf mute boy by Dutch author Arthur Japin. It also feature on the award winning lesbian themed Brazilian web series 'RED'.

Kolja was eight years old and deaf-mute when the brothers Tchaikovsky took him into their care. For eighteen years they lived with him, taking him on their travels through Europe, teaching him how to lipread and speak and eventually even making it possible for him to experience music. When the composer died in 1893 he wrote his last letter to Kolja, now it forms the starting point of this novel. The song was inspired on a fragment in the book where deaf-mute Kolja explains how important the wordless experiences of physical contact are to him:

"Lippen die je kussen, hoef je niet te lezen. Misschien dat ik daarom nog íéts meer aan de liefde verslingerd ben dan iedereen: lijven hebben zonder woorden lief. Mij is passie zo onweerstaanbaar omdat het anderen mijn wereld binnenvoert. Zinnen zijn daar zuchten. Ieder maakt er zijn wezen kreunend kenbaar, klanken onbeheerst, onbeheersbaar, zoals ik die uitstoot van nature."
