A Dark Desire is the debut album from Vampyrouss released on June 29th 2009 by Casket Music.
The songs form a concept album with a story borrowing heavily from both real life historical events local to North Devon where the band are from and wider elements borrowed from various fiction & mythologies.
The opening track The Trial of Temperance Lloyd refers to the 1682 "Bideford Witch Trials" which saw the last hangings for Witchcraft in England. Count Mitterhaus, The protagonist of the album, is a reference to the character of the same name from the Hammer Horror film "Vampire Circus" and he is referred to as "Faust" during Her Portrait Eyes with the duplicitous demon he summons being dubbed "Mephisto" due to the similarities with the German legend "Faust".
Some digital versions of the album contain 2 additional bonus tracks, the single edit versions of A Dark Desire & Reflections Of The Past with the latter being an entirely different recording to the album version.
