It’s quality fan service after releasing an album that went so far against their usual style that the fanbase backlashed. It’s fine if Simulcast does nothing for you personally, but it’s pretty debatable to accuse them of playing it too safe after 2019’s Weather.
From what I’ve seen, yeah. All facets of their social media were (politely) cluttered with comments about how they need to go back to being instrumental, how the vocals are too distracting, etc. I really don’t hate Weather... but it is decidedly not a Tycho record in my eyes (or ears).
I have to say, at first I did not like the new Tycho album. But as time as passed....it's a bit different now. I think it helps that he featured the same artist on all the featured songs. So it still feels like the album is a cohesive narrative just like his previous works. Granted, I will always prefer the trilogy (Dive, Awake and Epoch); I feel like now that time as passed, Weather has earned its place on my playlist. It's a decent album.
There is indeed a full album instrumental rework coming out in the next few months. Keep your eyes peeled. What's better is that it's not just the current album with the vocals gutted out, but rather fresh mixes and arrangements from Scott and the gang.
There’s an instrumental retake on the whole album that’s dropping in a few months, for everyone dissatisfied with the emphasis on vocals. I’d check it out before writing off Tycho forevermore. I think the new album is a breezy, fun listen but it’s more pop than Tycho and probably could’ve been placed under a different (collaborative) name. I don’t hate it but it’s also not signature Tycho to me.
I still really like his work and I like to see how his style is changing over time. I wouldn't say he's been on a downhill since Dive, but that's just my opinion. I didn't like Pink&Blue and the songs with Saint Sinner at the start too but then I grew to love them.
Pink and Blue feels out of place, I feel like it belongs to another moniker. Not tycho. No offense to the vocalist, she sounds good. I love the instrumental nonetheless. Was gonna pre-order the LP but I think I'll go for the trilogy first. Timeless.
Took some getting used to but I'm glad he's trying something different after he released the trilogy. You need to change to be able to grow as an artist and I'm glad that this is what he's doing. He says he will also release an instrumental version of Weather that will have entirely different sections in the songs.
