TUMa (Tuna Universitária da Madeira) is a portuguese musical group formed by students from the University of Madeira (UMa). Founded in 1995 the group looks for, as its main objectives, to promote the spirit of the academic life, the exchange with other similar groups around the country and the rest of the world, to carry the name of its University over borders.
In October 1995 TUMa recorded their first ever CD named "Madeira dos Estudantes".
In their mission to spread the spirit and the name of the academy, TUMa has toured through various countries like Portugal, Chile, Venezuela, Canada, South Africa, Spain, Austria, France, Thailand, China and Macau.
Tuma was also the name italian pop songwriter Giorgio Tuma used for his first album, “Uncolored (Swing'n'Pop Around Rose)”. He since has recorded a second album "My Vocalese Fun Fair", under his full name Giorgio Tuma.
He plays with a group of musicians called OS TUMANTES (in tribute to OS MUTANTES, the Brazilian band that paved the way to tropicalia).
“Uncolored (Swing'n'Pop Around Rose)”, was released under the name TUMA on a small Italian label: L'amico Immaginario. Here we can see all of his influences, his profound tendency toward Brazilian music, his brushes with jazz and his light and colorful conceptualization of music.
His second album, "Mi Vocalese Fun Fair", has been launched by the end of 2008 on the great spanish pop label Elefant Records.
