• Train - For Me, It's You Review

Train’s fourth studio album For Me It's You, is the band follow up to 2003’s My Private Nation. Fortunately for Train they are able to avoid the pitfalls that marred their 2003 release, but they are not able to pull it together into a complete package. The album has a more relaxed and stripped down feel from their previous work, but that “feel” contributes to what, at times, seems more like generic mainstream music than the more unique sound Train as made for it self over the last eight years.
One of Train’s strong points, lyrically, has been the ability to weave specific everyday aspects of life in more ephemeral overarching themes. Case is point is the band’s most popular song “Drops of Jupiter” wherein mentions of Tae Bo and fired chicken seemed to fit seamlessly. However, on 2003’s My Private Nation, Train used a plethora of common day events to little effect. As the band sang about being cool like a “soda can on ice” and wishing they had “dance moves like Patrick Swayze” the…

Their latest album really isn't as bad as my lame joke makes it out to be. Truthfully I'm not a huge fan of Train and maybe I don't fully appreciate Train's music. But the only reason for my interest this album was Drops of Jupiter.

But there are a few saving points in the form of two tracks All I Ever Wanted and their cover of If I Can't Change Your Mind. Actually I'm as of late I've been quite obsessive about All I Ever Wanted and just hitting repeat over and over again. If your not a great fan of Train you really should give at least that track a listen.

Train - For Me its You

So today for some reason I was surfing barnes and noble and saw that train had a new album out. Being a fairly big train fan for a long time I was excited. So I went over to isohunt.com and downloaded it.

I am listening to it now and it seems to be the same good stuff with some new styles mixed in(ex. Shelter me). But I am not going to write a review because it would be too biased.

I may even buy this one, being a poor high school student with no job that doesn't happen often.

I didn't even wait to finsh the album to write this but I will update this entry with further impressions later.

Maybe with last.fm's recomended reading thang some other fans will find out. And if you do feel free to tell me.

    Edit: 2/21/06
Ok as for further impressions I said this in a comment below but it is a very solid complete album. The type you put on and listen to the end.
