Biography

Toru Oki is a Japanese blues singer who was active in the '70s and early '80s. The Bluesman was well-known in Japan. Toru Oki Blues Band featuring Albert King was a special released on CBS/SONY label in 1981. It includes the hit song "You Really Got A Hold On Me".

"You Really Got a Hold on Me" is a song written by ‘Smokey Robinson’ which became a 1962 “Top-10” hit single for the ‘Miracles’ on the Tamla (Motown) label. This million-selling song received a 1998 “Grammy Hall of Fame Award”. It has also been selected as one of the “Rock and Roll Hall of Fame's 500 Songs that Shaped Rock and Roll”. It was covered by ‘Toru Oki Blues Band’ in this LP on Side-B.

Toru Oki’ dedicated the song track "I Got A Mind To Give Up Living" for Michael Bloomfield (1943-1981) who passed away the same year the album was released. As expected, ‘Albert King’ guitar performance is “exquisite”.
