21 Feb 2007, 04:05 by DAC545After this weekend I will have surpassed the mark of having seen 100 different bands live. If all goes to plan, whatever band opens for Chin Up Chin Up on Saturday should be #100. The openers still haven't been announced, which is actually pretty funny. If there are no openers or if I've already seen them, then Kimya Dawson's show the next day should do the trick. I'm very much looking forward to that one, since Kimya is rad and probably the absolutely coolest individual currently living today.
Anyway, I just wanted to reflect on some items concerning the bands that I've seen.
My favorite concert was seeing Gary Jules and Jim Bianco in Minneapolis in August. It was cool to begin with because it was so far from where I'm from and because it was such a coincidence that he happened to be playing there during the short time I was in the area. Secondly, being pretty drunk also helped. And third, the fact that he played Greetings from the Side, at my request was awesome. …

7 Feb 2006, 23:27 by john-a-dreamsI listened to Like Water for Chocolate for the first time in ages today. I forgot how much I love The 6th Sense and the album as a whole.
Be is good and all, but it doesn't have much sentimental value in my life yet.
The Life Pursuit came out today, I don't know if I should buy it or not, since I've had it leaked for over a month. I'll probably purchase it, I guess. They deserve my money.
Upcoming shows that I should be going to include Gogol Bordello, You Say Party! We Say Die!, The Winks, and possibly Metric.(again) I hope Islands are opening for them, I don't know if all that is hearsay.
GO LISTEN TO COMMON

14 songs in 30 minutes = twee.
The Winks play dark and apocalyptic songs on mandolin and cello with boy and girl vocals. Probably two of the merriest instruments on earth. Thus the connection to the destructively catchy popsongs of The Robot Ate Me isn't very far fetched at all. Especially not since they've both been released on Swim Slowly Records.
The songs are wicked and catchy and will screw you up for sure. The good way. Especially if you are, like me, a fan of the epic pop song and clever, intriguing lyrics. Here's a band with a universe of it's own. Dare you venture there?
