The Vespertines are a rock band from Long Beach, Calif., featuring Vanessa Acosta (vocals/trumpet), Kyle Cavaness (bass/keyboards), Alex Kater (guitars) and Chris Walker (drums/programming). The group is known for a genre-busting mix of rock, jazz, funk, and reggae, all built around Acosta's raw, emotional vocals and occasional trumpet freakouts. The Vespertines' first release, the four-song Gravity Optional EP, was recorded at Compound Studios in Signal Hill and released in 2009.
