    Kraene - Kraene

Kraene is a four member instrumental post rock band from Leipzig Germany. I know their guitarist Martin for a quite long time now and remember when our former bands had a gig together. He was doing something like grunge these days which never was my kind of music. However, our recent bands had a gig together in early 2013 and after listening to a few post metal and post rock bands during the last years I was really curious to hear his new band when I read that they are playing this kind of music.

The show took place in the narrow and dark basement of a youth center and this was just the perfect basis for them to roll out their sound carpet. They had no breaks between their songs, so the created atmosphere didn’t break down and therefore it was just catchy and I believe everybody got lost within the music. One day I read that they are recording their stuff and so I was pretty nosy if they are able to capture the feeling from their live shows.
  • From the archives, Vol. 1: Top 50 Albums of 2009-2013

Ok then, let's not blow this further up.
You may have noticed how my participation on this site has gotten less and less over the years (although I have the feeling last.fm is on a hiatus altogether; correct me if I'm wrong). What you did not know, though, is that I never stopped collecting these fabulous Top 50 lists by the end of each year. Lists, guys! Everybody loves them!

Now you may think: Whoah, this dude had all the time of the world to research underground's finest tunes, so if that won't make for THE ultimate best-of list, what would?
Don't expect too much for a few reasons. First, I haven't invested too much time in music - especially new music - past 2009; secondly, those .txt files dwelled on my computer for years without a direct purpose of publishing; lastly, and this is something I emphasize before posting these lists, because each list represents a preserved look back on my personal year in music without much revision. …

  • the top 40 rekkids of 2012 (I'm so late)

The top 40 rekkids of 2012 (the worst fucking year ever)
I told you this year would suck.
I told you everyone would be hoping the world would in fact end.
It didn’t though (but My Bloody Valentine might still bring about the end of the world next year, ha ha ha)
….not only that, very few bands really delivered albums that captured the general feeling of wanting the world to end this year. You’ll see which. I’m a little surprised I ended up having more than 40 albums to put together. You had quite a few huge disappointments. . . . .you also had a couple of bands suddenly deciding to really try this year.
    Here they are. . .

    Here goes the list
    40. Noisear – Turbulent Resrgence
It getting on this list has nothing to do with whether or not they ended the album with a long ass noise track or not. It's just that good.

    39. Malignancy – Eugenics
it's rare that a tech death band can write shit so creazy, and still not just be an in-one-ear-out-the-other band. It sticks.

    1. Grindcore|Death Metal

    Aeon - Aeons Black

    2. Melodic Death Metal

    Поехали. Без лишних слов.

    30. Cattle Decapitation - Monolith Of Inhumanity

    29. Love Sex Machine - Love Sex Machine

    28.Aborted- Global Flatline

    Katatonia - Dead Ends Kings
    . . . . . what the hell, man?
I thought they were done being hit or miss. They are, now they are complete miss. The whole thing sounds like Night Is The New Day WAY watered down. The only song that's remotely interesting is "buildings", and that's because it sounds like "forsaker". What the fuck happened?

War from a Harlots Mouth - voyeur

It's crazy how far this band has come.
From machinegun breakdowns with actual machineguns because "hey why not?" to damn near non-stop obliterating heaviness and the kind of discordant riffs you expect from someone like Portal. This is a band known for throwing experimental bits into it's songs, and they still do that here, but instead of deviating from the overall mood of the album they add to it. Where the other albums would offer some respite with a jazzy interlude, here we get somber somewhat cinematic(did they call Bologna Violenta) cello interludes that to me make the album flow even better.
