The Third Second is a duo comprised of Jason Landers and Renick Bell. The Third Second began as a duo in 1998. Landers and Bell organized frequent improvisational recording sessions for almost a year. These recording sessions ranged from two to six people using a variety of instruments and sound sources. After a year of recording, the pair began to digitally manipulate the recordings. Those initial experiments became The Third Second's debut album, Dynamic Adrenal Challenge, released in 1999.
