- Slim Smith (1962 – 1965)
The Techniques were one of the top Jamaican rock steady vocal groups of the 1960s. A number of later stars passed through the group, notably Slim Smith, Bruce Ruffin and Winston Riley. Smith's replacement as lead singer was Pat Kelly, and it was he who enjoyed their most successful period 1966-8 with classic tracks such as 'You Don't Care' and 'Queen Majesty' for the evergreen Treasure Isle label. The group's close harmonising falsetto style was modelled on soul contemporaries, specifically Curtis Mayfield and the Impressions.
