No one top new track tonight because instead there were three tracks from the fantastic new album by Huoratron. Last year, Vitalic made it to the topspot in my best albums list. I have a feeling that Huoratron's mix of stupid, stupid noises, slamming, horrible beats and the sound of seagulls being shredded is going to do the same this year. It's gonna be in the top five at least. Check it out if you've ever liked any electronic music of any form whatsoever.
It was also a very busy night so I got loads of requests. Hence the chunks of old hip hop and ska in the playlist. So, this week's top old tune was the simply sumptuous 'We Can Get Down' by A Tribe Called Quest. I have listened to this song a ridiculous amount of times and yet, every time I hear it, I'm amazed at the melding of rhymes and beats. It's perfect. Flawless. Perfection.
This is what youse hoird:
Taz Buckfaster - au revoir

Ahh, the best new song tonight was easy - 'The Comfort' by Moss. Just a perfect, singalong indiepop song. If you've ever sung along with The Shins, The Format, Phoenix, The Pursuit Of Happiness or Sex Clark Five, I suggest you go and buy their new album. It's ace!
The best old song was 'Sunday' by Sonic Youth. I've probably had it as a best old tune before, I've certainly played it many times DJing. The reason I keep returning to it is that it's a flawless piece of music. I'm immediately hooked by the intro guitar riff. And I remain hooked all the way through, up to and then breaking past of the cathartic noise-out at the end. Magical.
This is what I played:
Surrogate - A Constitution
Brainpower - Even Stil
The Promise Ring - Happy Hour
Samiyam - Roller Skates
Exlovers - you forget so easily
OC - Mush One
Husker Du - Don't Want to Know If You Are Lonely
Bane - Some Came Running

The best new track tonight was 'The Architect' by It Dies Today. Yes, pure metalcore, yes, magnificent, shuddering breakdowns. And, yes, the new album, out on September 15th, is excellent. Buy it if you need a bit of a shout and a windmill. :-)
The best old track was a complete contrast: 'En noches como la de hoy' by La Casa Azul. Sunny and sugary, this is megatwee indiepop at its diabetic-coma-inducing best. Yummy!
This is what you heard:
Signaldrift - Atlas
Little Big Adventure - The Hateful Eye
Sunken Heads - Kinetics
Exlovers - you forget so easily
BirdPen - breaking precedent
Zomby - Helter Skelter
Homeboy Sandman - The Big Band Theory (Prod. By

Wednesday's best new track was by Akira Kiteshi and it was the awesome 'Glitch Pt 1&2.' As soon as I first (illegally) heard this stuttering, grunting, groinking track, I nipped onto iTunes and bought the single. Wonderful, rich electronic music.
The best old track was by tonight's featured artist, The Hidden Cameras. Although it could have been any of them, I have to go with 'A Miracle' as this song has helped me through some dark times. Joel Gibb's voice, the beautiful lyrics and the silky strings add up to one of my favourite ever recordings.
This is what I played:
Bad Religion - American Jesus
Pedro the Lion - Foregone Conclusions
Aardvarck - Untitled
Aesop Rock - Zodiaccupuncture
Black Flag - Louie Louie
The Narrator - SurfJew
Loefah - disko rekah
Fireside - Left Rustle
Friendly Fires - Jump In The Pool
The Cramps - Goo Goo Muck

Wooo - what a packed night! And loads of great requests, old and new!
Speaking of which, the best new track was 'Gold For Bread' by Blitzen Trapper. It's off their very poppy new album, 'Furr,' and it was released last week. Check it out for singalong loveliness!
The best old track was 'Observer' by Gary Numan. I was a teenage Numanoid and it's pretty obvious that his synthiness has stuck with me since then in the music I make myself. Where would synthpop, electro and all their modern derivatives be without Numan's huge influence? 'Observer' is just perfect.

1 Jan 2008, 15:13 by JyotiMishraOh groinkers! It's taken me bastard hours to compile my best-of list this year!
Because 2007 was a great year for new music! :-D
I've whittled this list down to from around ninety albums to fifty. I had to make some very painful cuts to get it down to that number. Really. :-(
So, I must emphasise, every album on this list is a winner, regardless of position. I think your life would be enriched if you went out and bought each and every one. I've not bunged anything in to try and make an impressively large list, quite the opposite.
Now, let's get to it!
50. Apathy & Celph Titled – No Place Like Chrome
Solid, grabby hip hop distinguished by some very hooky (not hokey) samples.
49. mr 76ix – 3 (Minority Of 1)
Wonderful electronic gubbins, 'Traits' and 'Time Cycle' are my faves. Veers from melodic blippiness to surging electrofuzz.
