      13 Jul 2009, 18:04 by -Christoph-

      Fr., 10. Jul. – Adventure Playground # 5

There's no easy way to put this, so please accept our apologies for the seemingly abrupt nature of this post. We are saddened to announce that after sixteen years as The Lucksmiths, the band has decided to break up"). Schnief.

Die Lucksmiths wären wahrlich Grund genug gewesen, nach Hamburg zu fahren. …

    • The Luckies leave London...

      8 Jul 2009, 08:07 by andrewpascoe

Tue 7 Jul – The Lucksmiths, Still Corners, The Chemistry Experiment, Gary Olson

...well, almost leave. They played the Luminaire last night, before their "main" gig at Scala tonight. But this is their farewell Europe tour, so either way they're not coming back.

I'll keep it short: they were even more awesome than normal - probably spurred on by it being their last outing here.

Before their own set, all 4 of them were out playing with Gary Olson (The Ladybug Transistor), who sounded a treat (I only caught half his set unfortunately).

For their own set - it was a mix of everything. A lot of stuff from First Frost but also some of their best older tracks - including Untidy Towns and The Golden Age Of Aviation. I saw them twice over the weekend they played the Northcote Social Club back in Melbourne in March so I should have been Luckies'd out, but this gig was so much broader in the tracks, and punchier in the delivery... 'twas great.

    • Listening to The Ladybug Transistor

      15 Dec 2008, 23:07 by ribbonz

One of the best things about Last.fm is its radio facility. I like to travel around the channels. shoegaze, dream pop, winter songs, and endangered languages radio are my favourite tags.

This evening while I was listening to my neighbourhood radio, I came across with an old folk song: Rhistone Cowboy. A silly song which is not my style. But I remember it from my late professor's car stereo... And the only Karaoke cafe of Thimphu, The Zone used to play that song so often... I remember karaokeing there with my friends, eating pizza and drinking Tiger beer.

Sometimes some memories are killing me.

My old teacher, the linguist who made me who I'm died in 2007 in Thimphu because of a heart attack. His body was found by the river. He had probably been fishing before he died. Fishing without government permit is illegal in Bhutan. And my professor loved fish.

I would give a lot of years of my lifetime to get my teacher back to life. Wish I were with him that cold morning. Wish I had never left Thimphu. …

    • My Music Week in Review 11/10/08

      10 Nov 2008, 22:30 by DeuceMckenzie

My second wave of Elephant 6 exploration continued this week. In fact, if not for my yourmusic.com, my purchases would have been exclusive to the collective.

      Album: Can't Wait Another Day
      Artist: The Ladybug Transistor
      Released: 2007
      Acquired Via: City Lights (CD)

Some time ago, a poster at rateyourmusic.com recommended The Albemarle Sound to me based on my love of the E6 extended family band, The Essex Green. Both groups definitely belong to more mellow, melodic branch of the collective, but that is really where the similarities end. The Ladybug Transistor actually remind me more of The Magnetic Fields than anyone else. The same strange upbeat/depressive feeling that instantly makes me think of antidepressant medications for some reason. TLT's latest effort is nowhere near the quality of the first record I bought by them, but it has some great tracks. I especially like Here Comes The Rain, a great little pop gem. I must say that the production on this album is surprisingly slick for an E6 related act…
