Really excited for the new album. Honestly, I've been digging everything they've done outside of Ozcy. That record just doesn't hold up on repeat listens, but I'm liking the more subdued approach they're taking on this new one.
Idk, I haven't been listening to TFL very long but checked out the Deap Lips thing since it has just come out. I don't hate it. Lyrics are blah. A few songs stood out to me in particular, like Wandering Witches. That's a sick song. Probably will end up deciding the other few songs I really like from the album once I listen to it another time or 2, and then listen exclusively to those songs thereafter.
One of the only long-running bands whose best albums are spread evenly throughout the years. My favorites are In A Priest Driven Ambulance, Soft Bulletin, Embryonic, Zaireeka, and The Terror, plus they've done amazing stuff in between like Oh My Gawd, Clouds Taste Metallic, Yoshimi, 7 Skies H3, all those collab EPs, etc.
Man, the best thing about the Lips is how divisive a crowd they pull. I personally think Oczy Mlody is one of their best albums, and I've been listening to em since 2004, or so! I say keep more coming from the left field! The Lips are never about expectations!
I finally heard it this week and it was definitely an improvement over Oczy Mlody, to my ears. Maybe some of their finest work ever. And I also revisited Yoshimi for the first time in years and found I didn't really enjoy it anymore. It's strange how our tastes can change over time.
"We want, or wanted, to believe that without love we would disappear, that love, somehow, would save us that, yeah, if we have love, give love and know love, we are truly alive and if there is no love, there would be no life. The Terror is, we know now, that even without love, life goes on... we just go on… there is no mercy killing."
