The Esoteric Gender started off with the encounter of Lisa Jamesdaughter, from Manchester, England, and Jean-Christophe Salaün, from Caen, Normandy, France in 2007 in a creative writing course at the University of Iceland. As they built a strong friendship, they realized their musical tastes were very similar – they both had a predilection for highly melodic electronica.
