The Drexels are a Post Punk Maximum Rock-n-Roll band from Cleveland Ohio that mixes eclectic songwriting & lyrics with hard rock & punk to bring a dynamic sound "Turning Stone" is their full debut CD released July 21, 2012 . The Drexels formed in Nov of 2007 with the core members being Bobby J, Matt Mugridge, Billy Spear, Paul Strachan, playing its first show a mix of covers of Sex Pistols, Buzzcocks, Clash and God Squad songs in December 2007 @ Beachland Tavern, Cleveland, Ohio to a enthusiastic crowd of friends.many shows later at clubs like Now Thats Class, Grog Shop, the band was honing its set to now include original material which was taking shape. Tragically lead singer Matt Mugridge founder of The Grog Shop and a very influential figure in the Cleveland Punk Scene passed away in May of 2009.
After a year hiatus the band decided to continue on with the original spirit of it all as The Drexels with Bobby J taking over lead vocals. On May of 2010 The Drexels played a successful return show @ The Happy Dog on the near west side of Cleveland to a packed house.
Bobby J has been a staple in the Cleveland Scene since the early 80's and has been a founding member of many early punk & indie bands including The Gorbals (83-86), The God Squad (86-89) and Krumble which released "Thirteen" their debut on Ear Tonic Records in 2001 (1992-2002) and was lead guitarist for Jimmy Zero's (Dead Boys) band with the moniker of Lesbian Maker from (1999-2001) their debut show show at original location of Grog Shop in 99 was played to a sold out crowd. Other shows to note were at the Beachland Ballroom and at the 39th Street Pub in Pittsburgh, PA with the Cynics. He worked with Wayne Kramer (MC5) and recorded a single for Wayne Kramer's Compilation "Beyond CyberPunk" released on Muzic Blitz Records in 2001.
The God Squad Retrospective 86-89 "Just Have to Live it" a double CD with 22 tracks was picked up and released on Smog Veil Records (Chicago) in 2002. Billy Spear: has played for many years in Secret Saucer a psychedelic progressive space rock type band that has distribution on a European Label. Billy Tomazic has many years in the Cleveland & Akron Music Scene as well being a member of Akron Punk Legends Teacher's Pet from the 70's. He was also in Cleveland's Suspect Device.
