Apparently, Robert detested this song and never wanted it to become a single and as popular as it's become... As posted in Wikipedia, when The Cure did its video, he claimed to be drunk and was deliberately out of synch.
Very end is basically the ending of The Beatles’ “A Day in the Life” (rising-note orchestra crescendo followed by low note/chord) in miniature. It’s known Robert was listening to The Beatles back then (same year as [artist]The Glove[/artist] side project), so I’ve always assumed it’s an intentional musical reference on his part.
omg one of my earliest memories as a child is my parents bringing me into the cat room when i was 3 and carrying me around while dancing and singing along to this song while we watched the cats play... i had those cats until i was 20!!! damn, memories. this will always be one of my favorite songs because of those memories.
