The Chapel Choir of The University of Glasgow consists of thirty-two auditioned singers of mixed voices (S.A.T.B.), formed of a mixture of volunteers, choral exhibitioners and professional Lay Clerks). In addition to the funded Lanfine Choral, Organ and Conducting Awards, all members of the choir receive free singing tuition. The choir is directed by Dr Kathryn Lavinia Cooper and accompanied by the University Organist, the renowned British recitalist Dr Kevin Bowyer. The principal function of the Chapel Choir is to provide liturgical music in the University Chapel, and for the wider University community.

The Choir sings for a variety of services in the Chapel, for the Church of Scotland, Roman Catholic Church, Scottish Episcopal Church and also for Interfaith Events. The choir also programmes a regular series of Tuesday evening Choral Contemplations in the University Memorial Chapel at 6pm throughout Semesters One and Two (Oct-March)

Over the past few years the Chapel Choir has been extremely active, regularly being invited to record the Daily Service and to broadcast the Morning Service live on BBC Radio 4 and also to record programmes for the Sunday Half Hour programme on BBC Radio 2. The Choir is regularly engaged in concert work in and around Glasgow. Recent large-scale concerts include appearances at Celtic Connections (GRIT and Bothy Culture).

Further afield, the Chapel Choir tours regularly. Past destinations include countries throughout Europe, the United States, London and the Inner Hebrides. Recent tours include a major tour to the Baltic States of Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia, giving concerts in all three major capital cities, a tour of Italy, giving concerts in San Gimignano, and in the Duomo in Florence, a tour to the Black Forest in Germany, Amsterdam , and to Stockholm, Sweden. In September 2018 the choir will undertake a 2 week tour to China.

The Choir has recorded under their own record lable 'Bute'. CD's can be purchased on the Recordings page.

Auditions for prospective members are normally held in late September and early October of each year, but enquiries are welcome at any time of the year. For further information please contact the Director of Chapel Music.
