Biography
Listeners get nothing less than a goofy, steadfast one-man show from TH Speedball, moniker for creator and musician Jon Steinberg. TH Speedball is celebrating the end of 2020 and is hopeful for new beginnings in 2021 thanks to his latest release: Clown. With six full-lengths, four EPs, and three singles under his belt just this year, Clown is just the beginning. The 7-track album follows a previous instrumental release Steadfast Mutism, and an October release, A Collection of Songs You Can Get Spoopy II. Released on November 27th, 2020, Clown is the first album to feature vocals from TH Speedball, and this ode to fun, but serious, indie-synth music is dutifully done.
TH Speedball had this to say about the creation of Clown:
“I had a lot of fun making these songs and a lot of them had me approach the writing process differently which was really cool. This album was my stab at writing some silly songs and some serious songs. It’s kinda divided in half which ones are more serious and which ones have a lighter tone to them. The idea of Clown is to kinda say, “I will be a clown for you and perform my music whether you think I’m a clown or not.” I’m still finding my way in this music world and while I figure it out, sometimes I feel like a clown.”
Tracks oscillate from emotional to crazy, but it’s sure to find a listener in most this holiday season, and beyond, with tracks like “Third Time,” and “Al Nechey.” While TH Speedball is still finding new and creative ways to make music, like tracking the sounds of a dishwasher, he also loves to create music that people can relate to and laugh with. Title track, “Clown,” assures listeners of what to expect in the album.
