V Strongly disagree V --- Sure the vocals are a blatant David Sylvian rip-off and some of the lyrics are a bit ESL but - to my ears - Singular Forms is one of the bravest and best realised albums of 2010, vocals and all. One thing's for sure, Chauveau doesn't give a shit if people are ridiculing him on Last FM. He just goes for it! Like I said, brave.
In spite of all his musical talent, the vocals on the 2010 album are just absolutely terrible - at times even humiliatingly bad. A worse, more blatant rip off from David Sylvian is very hard to find. It becomes increasingly patethic as he gets the intonation all wrong. That's where I imagine a number of seasoned listeners just cringe in horror.
No matter how well done the music is, I can´t shake the feeling of embarrassment that someone with the name Sylvain Chauveau suddenly tries to sing like no other than David Sylvian, one of the unique voices of this planet since decades. I´m speechless, really.
