Summum Bonum is a industrial rock band from Utah, United States. The band consists of Tynan Mclelland on Keyboard, Steven Dotson on Vocals, Dan Hill on Lead Guitar, Yoshi Campbell on Rhythm Guitar, Elliot John on Lead Drums, and Kell Padget on Backup Drums. They have been friends since long before their formation in 2007 and changed band names once (Wild Card) before adopting the name Summum Bonum. The name Summum Bonum is a philosophical term referring to the ultimate good.
Their sound is a blend of Industrial Rock, Electronica, Classic Rock, and Classical Music. They usually make use of the drums as the driving force but often back the sound up with the guitars and keyboard. As for the vocals, the first album (Semicide) consists of mostly pure vocals with some reverb and delay but the second album (G.R.A.S.) seems to have a stronger focus on distorted lyrics similar to that of Ministry. The lyrics for the first album focus on the loss and lust for women but the second album seems to wander astray from this theme with themes varying from becoming a cyborg to the classic rebel without a cause. G.R.A.S. has, however, been put on hold until their singer returns from his tour in Iraq. There is a third album in the works called Dissolution.
