Eivind Lønning - trumpet
Espen Reinertsen - saxophone
Streifenjunko make vigorous music with the rare instrumentation of tenor saxophone and trumpet. Espen Reinertsen and Eivind Lønning have worked closely together for a long time to present truly unique and original compositions. During the last few years, Streifenjunko have played well over 100 concerts all over the world.
Streifenjunko released their debut cd "No Longer Burning" in 2009 on the record label Sofa, a debut that made Chicago Reader journalist Peter Margasak write: "Trumpeter Eivind Lønning and reedist Espen Reinertsen, two young Norwegians performing as Streifenjunko, knocked me out with their unassuming debut album, delivering one of the most potent and original spins on free improvisation I’ve heard in years." The follow-up record "Sval Torv" was released August 2012, a beautiful double vinyl on Sofa with video stills by video artist Kjell Bjørgeengen on the cover, that can be heard and seen at www.streifenjunko.bandcamp.com.
They announced their new album 'Like driving' to be released on Sofa Records (www.sofamusic.no) in november 2018 with the artwork again done by Kjell Bjørgeengen.
Eivind Lønning and Espen Reinertsen are working together in other constellations as well, most recently in the ECM-recording band Christian Wallumrød Ensemble, and also in the improvising quintet Koboku Senju with tubaist Martin Taxt, guitarist Tetuzi Akiyama and no-input-ist Toshimaru Nakamura, as well as earlier collaborations with Sidsel Endresen and Keith Rowe/Kjell Bjørgeengen.
