Initially starting off with piano lessons, it didn’t take long for Steve Trovato to convert over to the world of guitar. By the age of 15, word about his playing started to spread and he joined the first of many bands working the New Jersey scene. During the next five years, Steve established himself as “the” guitarist in town. His unmatched ability to cover a broad range of musical styles including rock, jazz, country and blues quickly made him the guy you needed to have in your band. Eagerly wanting to see how much more he could accomplish and pushing his guitar skills even further, Steve headed west to attend the famed, Guitar Institute of Technology.

Graduating first in his class, Steve won the Gibson Award for outstanding musical achievement. This acknowledgement was soon followed by his induction into the Tune-Up magazine Hall of Fame for his outstanding contributions to the promotion and performance of guitar music. The accolades catapulted Steve around the world, playing his guitar, being invited on stage by music royalty and headlining Jazzfest, Italy’s preeminent music festival.

The media has also taken note. Guitar Player magazine, the world’s largest guitar publication features Steve on a regular basis with editorial articles and instructional lessons. Internationally, Steve has been featured in Chittare (Italy), Guitarre and Bass (Germany), Guitar Player (Brazil), Guitar World and Just Jazz Guitar. Online, his barn-burning, country guitar is watched by hundreds of thousands on YouTube regularly.

Live performances and the ever growing list of studio work have only allowed him to release two solo recordings so far. In 2001, the long awaited and appropriately titled, About Time… came out to unanimous applause, receiving unprecedented media reviews and acknowledgements from his peers. Country Jazzmaster came out in 2007 melding two styles that hadn’t been heard together in quite some time. By combining elements of country and jazz, then infusing that with the styling’s of rock and blues, Steve has set the bar on what can be achieved and has instantly put himself on the top of a genre that has been long overdue.

In 2011, the ultimate of compliments was given when Steve headlined the annual All Star Guitar Night. The concert has become a landmark event occurring each year and coinciding with the music industry’s NAMM show. The concert sells out each year and the 90,000+ attendees at the NAMM show make the event the place to be. Each year, an elite group of guitarists gather to perform under one roof and together with music industry manufacturers, they raise funds benefiting the Music for Life Alliance. The event is produced each year by Truefire.

Paying it forward continues to be driving campaign for Steve as well. Steve has authored over 30 guitar instructional products covering all facets, levels and styles of guitars. In addition, he currently maintains a full time position at the Studio Jazz Department at the University of Southern California where he has also authored three of the core curriculum books. His ability to take the seemingly impossible and translate it into terms even novice musicians can understand, is a trait held by few but mastered and understood by Steve.

Steve promises more recordings are to come but in the meantime, stand aside as he continues to blaze a trail rewriting the history of the guitar.
