Album Notes
The release of Traces to Nowhere is something a little different for Somegirl. Stephen Mork continues the same lush, dreamy electronic soundscapes, but this time around, there is a different female singer on each of the first six tracks. Two of the vocalsits make a return visit to Somegirl. Laura (The Velvet Hour) sings on "This Haunted House" which is a cover of a Loretta Lynn song. Kristy Jo (Yes/No (Kaje Mix)) sings on the Depeche Mode cover The Things You Said. Susan, who Stephen calls the 'OG SG' co-wrote and sang on the haunting Wintersong. Sublime jazz vocalist Celia provides vocals on the dark, brooding It's My Secret. This track was co-written by occasional Somegirl collaborator Tony Gral. Kim sings on the bouncy, poppy, and sardonic Enough to Hate You. Tracy Sparrow co-wrote the Middle Eastern tinged Duran inspired track, Saint Sahara, and also performed the vocals. The last song is an instrumental track that was co-written by TJ Martin who also mixed and mastered Traces to Nowhere. The song was inspired by the lyrics of It's My Secret which retell the story of the heroine in a gothic short story "The Yellow Wallpaper." This story is a favorite of Stephen's and is the macabre tale of a woman's descent into madness.
