After giving their latest album some more listens I found out Emmanuelle is Good and powerful singer with big similarity to Vibek sten vocal range But without The Sweet emotional tender vabik sound had . also knowing how this album wasn't written to fit her vocal range at all I feel like she wasn't given The right chance that would make her voice shine in true way .so Hopefully next album will be full of her talent .also Im bagging for Good production and bass player to join the band also keyboardist Sirenia could never shine in true way without such elements .
I am sorry, but I do not want to sound like a fan-boy, but Sirenia with Emmanuelle is not as good as Sirenia with Ailyn. Ailyn had such a beautiful voice, and most of all it was versatile. Emmanuelle's voice is good, but flat, she cannot be versatile with her voice. Just another opera singer in another symphonic metal band. And the fact that Ailyn was kicked out of the band without her knowing makes it even worse.
Ailyn's vocals on The 13th Floor is extremely flat and plain too. And even more annoying. But then she started to sing more variedly and it brought a lot of benefit to the band. I don't pay much attention Emma's an opera singer. She's unlike Dianne from Xandria or even Tarja, she sings in her own way. I just hope that Emma will be more interesting later on.
This band is beyond a joke at this point. With Ailyn they were progressing back into the right, heavy direction and Morten fucked it all up again. Just stick to Mortemia and hire female singers for a few tracks, there is no need to keep this Sirenia name going any longer.
When it comes to Morten, his best material is at the start of his career, when he was writing at his heaviest. As he progressed, his song writing deteriorated as he shed the "heavy" vibes, so in this case yes, Heavy is synonyms with good.
i really like perils of the deep blue and the seventh life path (and not just 'cause of ailyn). new album is so xandria, and in a bad way. operetic voices aren't always the best joice, sometimes clean vocals can be very colorful, emotional. i don't like emanuelle's work in this album, it's not Pleasant, enjoyable to my ears. they are my favorite band, but this is a bad thing for me.
I really like the new album, I think they can do it better. It's more like TEOL than the last two albums. I would like to hear some high notes in the final chorus of Dim Days of Dolor, I felt weak that part :s
On a side note: Why does Morten even needs female vocalists? o.O Songs like Ditt Endelikt or Veil of Winter show that he's a very, very good singer, and he can also pull off harsh vocals well. Sirenia would become much more interesting if he'd stop with the female singers and switch to a darker, more mysterious goth sound with his vocals only, both clean and harsh. Kinda' like the debut album. I'd listen the shit out of that. Unfortunetly, he seems to be more interested in creating average radio-friendly gothic metal...
It's Joakim Naess on those tracks, Elixir too. At times he sounds like Morten (or maybe Morten is singing backing). On Veil of Winter he sounds a LOT like Morten. Unless that track is Morten. He just made two albums which were pretty heavy by Morten standards, why would you say 'he's only interested in making radio-friendly gothic metal'...? I don't think the new album is THAT radio-friendly, certainly nowhere near as much as NDAAD and T13thF. You just said yourself the album isn't catchy, well that goes against the radio-friendly tag. He also has a habit of introducing new female leads with albums that they dominate (to make them feel needed), then when he's sick of them he'll use them less and less. Rinse repeat. I'd prefer if Joakim had more parts, he has a great voice.
He has Mortemia for that and honestly I don't think he wants Sirenia to be darker, if something, he wants to go more "accessible" plus Sirenia would feel weird with no female vocals and let's be honest, he's going to lose lots of fans that are only into the female-fronted thing.
The new album is... Ok I guess. Has many Sirenia-ish moments, the arrangements and production are stellar. Unfortunetly, the new singer often sounds kinda' generic and the entire album jumps between darker, more mysterious Sirenia-style moments and being average gothic metal. I also think there are too few strong melodies, as the only song I really enjoyed start to finish was the title track. It might have been better if it was more along the lines of Perils of the Deep Blue, with more dynamic and varied songs and song structured. Overall, probably the thing I missed the most was good hooks and melodies. The new vocalist can't pull off catchy choruses just yet. Maybe next time.
Yeah, songwriting could have been better. The arrangements are great but it doesn't matter if you don't have a strong song beneath it. And I agree the vocals are very good on a technical level - But they also seem very generic to me. If you'd ask me how an average female gothic metal vocalist sounds like, this would be it. She's best when she sings in a more intimnate, rock-like way. Again, nothing wrong with the vocalist per se, will se how she holds up on the new album.
It has a lot of progressive things in the album. It's better than the reviews says, I think they don't know how Sirenia sounds. Even it's not the best gothic metal album in the world, it has something new... maybe feeling?
The album leaked. I'm on my 2nd listen right now, and it's great. Better than what the reviews have been scoring it (like 7/10 overall), and while not as dark and gothic as the first 2 albums and the previous one, it still sounds melancholic and epic, with the lyrics being dark as usual. Musically, it's kinda similar to Perils of the Deep Blue, but this one is way more progressive, experimental and interesting to listen to, at least from an instrumental perspective. Emma's voice is great, just needs a bit getting used to after 4 albums with Ailyn, and it works well with the music and the choirs. Production is also really good, it sounds heavy and clear overall.
Dim Days Of Dolor is very nice. It means theyre heading for the mainstream again, and i am not complaining. That is a good song and remembers me the old Xandria sound. Btw, the new vocalist sounds SO GOOD!
I still regard At Sixes And Sevens as one of the best albums ever made (for my taste at least), and even An Elixir For Existence is pretty good, and it makes me really sad to see how generic Sirenia has become. I listened to the new song with an open mind because I like the singer they picked but that shit is super boring and sounds like what 90% of metal bands with female singers do.
