Machine Messiah is the first ''all killer, no filler'' album of the Sepultura line-up with Derrick Green on vocals. The experiments of records like A-Lex and Dante XXI have been integrated properly into the groovy thrash metal and brutal hardcore-like sound of the band nowadays. Casagrande's drumming is incredible and Green is a versatile vocalist, from soulful clean singing to the typical shouts we're used from him. The doomy title track is probably my favourite on the album.
I could never really get into Sepultura's past music but wow, I'm surprised at how good this new album is. Not one bad song, not even one "meh" song and a lot of my favorite bands have at least one "meh" song in most of their albums.
Roots are really overrated and overhyped album, I find nothing interesting in it. But the older ones - I mean, Chaos A.D., Arise and Beneath the Remains, I think they're really fuckin' awesome. So glad I gave Sepultura another chance.
I'm not a fanboy or sentimental type of a guy but really...nothing compares to Schizophrenia, Beneath the Remains and Arise. Masterpieces. Although the music that came after has some good moments, it's not even close to that earlier awesomeness. I'm not bashing the current lineup and what they did, but simply it's just not the same level.
