I've always been somewhat indifferent to Wednesdays, but the stripped back live version (Another Wednesday) really allows the depth of the lyrics to cut through. Great stuff.

You know what absolutely belies belief? That it was "The Shadowlands" that he fell of the stage to in January 2004 when he broke his wrist. You'd think it would've been one of the more rocking contemporary tracks like "This Is It" or "Note To Self: Don't Die" (lol) or "Shallow" or even the title track from "Love Is Hell." But "Shadowlands?" That's about as absurd as falling off the stage to "Avalanche" (despite the title lol).

Also, the live versions from Decmber 2003 that I have heard had a pretty cool extended guitar solo in the end. He was probably fucking around on stage while the touring guitarist did their thing.

Wasn't the touring guitarist Johnny something? The guy that passed away last year? That was a good band. Those fall 2003/winter 2004 shows were pretty varied.

Yeah probably. Did some googling and found a Youtube video with audio from that night. The title is: "Ryan Adams, Shadowlands, Liverpool Royal Court, where he breaks his arm". The rest of the band slows down and eventually stops in the middle of the solo so my theory tracks :D BTW, many of these shows are up on Archive.org

Yeah, I have that recording. You can hear the microphone hit the ground when he falls on top of it too. It's on my "Ryan Adams Disasters" playlist after the Ryman Auditorium show from 2002 with the Summer of 69 incident 🤣💀

Really like the Shelter From the Storm cover, and how it turns into this Grateful Dead type jam

I feel like I blink and Ryan Adams releases a new record. His 'cancellation' has led to him being really productive.

Open to change, but so far FM feels like my fave of the three releases this year.

Discuss - He's a massive asshole no doubt. No major music site/magazine has seemingly chosen to review 'Chris', rightly or wrongly. The same sites/magazines continue to fetishize Jimmy Page, Bowie, Jagger, Steven Tyler, Kiedis, Marvin Gaye, you name it. Is this right? Wrong? Should it be filed under: 'times were different' ?

No, "times were different" isn't an excuse for being an arsehole, let alone being a pedo. I bet Ryan isn't a worse human being than all of the abovementioned, but somehow he gets cancelled, and the others - don't.

Everyone is outed as a trashcan human nowadays. He probably isn't worse than your next door neighbour, he's just more popular and has more money.

there's something very cynical about changing the tracklists of albums recorded and sequenced before you apologised, and releasing them anyway to sound more apologetic and safe (looking at you, Wednesdays). Big Colors v2 is coming again now I guess, but what we've heard of the material isn't that inspiring again. I'm still sort of looking forward to "Chris" as I believe Ryan can still be genuinely insightful about grief, but being genuinely sorry is sadly beyond him.

Wonderwall is a folk song from the 18th century... plenty of artists have covered it, including Oasis and Adams. You sound so stupid.

I mean, it was obviously not meant to be taken seriously, as you can objectively prove that Wonderwall is -not- an 18th century folk song.

It could be or he may not hear from Ryan for a few more years. I wonder if he still is under investigation by the police / FBI for what has happened.

Your comment aged well. 2020 is his year. He's fulfilling fans' requests to cover songs daily during these dark times, via Instagram. Total hope booster. Tbh if he released one of his halted albums now, would probably not only be good for his fans but esp. for his career.
