These two phenomenal artists share a unique history. Lockwood was given a special gift early in life. Robert Johnson lived with his mother for almost ten years and taught him how to play guitar. He is the only known individual to have that distinction, and his moniker of Robert Jr. is a result of that connection. He was clearly a great student because he became an exceptional guitarist. Johnny Shines was a Blues Hall of Fame singer and guitarist who got his start in the mid-thirties touring and playing with Robert Johnson. This Robert Johnson connection is something very few artists can claim, and probably is a major reason these two connected so brilliantly on so many incredible blues recordings. This album is a wonderful demonstration of both their talents and their camaraderie. It is a brilliant collection. This album was released on Rounder in 1980, number 2023.
