Officially revealed on the 26th March 2019, Deutschland is the first of five singles from Rammstein's upcoming, as yet untitled album. It was released digitally on the 28th March, with preorders for the subsequent album and physical single release (12th April) also taking place.
The teaser for the video and the video itself proved controversial, with many significant figures in the Jewish community in Germany speaking out against it - according to Charlotte Knobloch, former President of the Central Council of German Jews, the teaser had "crossed the border", while YouTube had marked it as age-restricted content, and the Louder Sound magasine describing it as "NSFW". Nevertheless, five hours after the digital premiere, public opinion was clear - with the YouTube video having a like/dislike ratio of three-hundred and eighty-eight thousand to seven and a half thousand.
The music video on YouTube had amassed well over two million views just over five hours after its' premiere at 5pm on the 28th March.
