Just heard Periphery for the first time through PIII. Other than Absolomb, Marigold, Habitual Line-stepper and Lune, I'm not entirely impressed. Anyone got any recommendations as to what other albums to check out? If they have more like those four then I'd be happy to listen.
Juggernaut Alpha / Omega. If you like them go on the previous ones. Periphery 2 is more 'clean' production and a very beast of an album. Periphery 1 i never liked at first, mostly for the vocals, but now i'm in love with it. Anyway. For me Juggernaut is what get me into them. Oh, the last one is a fucking grower, listen to it more times trust me.
I'm really loving the new record. I'm still unsure as to where it would stack up with the rest of their discography, but there are quite a few epic tracks here. I just wish it had one or two more tracks, but I'm glad we received what we got in the end. To be honest though, I feel like Spencer's lyrics are just worsening with time.
Ah.... This was an interesting album. Spencer's vocals shined in this album most definitely. "Catch Fire" captured his vocal range in a great way. Overall, this album wasn't bad by any stretch at all. It just didn't capture my attention like Periphery II and their older material, but I definitely enjoyed this album more than Juggernaut. It captured the aggression aspects in songs like "Motormouth", "The Price is Wrong", and "Remain Indoors" and beauty in sweeping melodic key pieces like in "The Way News Goes". The instrumentation and production was on point as usual. I dig it. "Catch Fire" was the one song that I could really vibe with. Dope album.
@Riktenkay: What the actual f***? Give it some time, mate. Especially if you know, you will dig it later. And I don't get what is "faggotry" about Periphery. I mean Spencer is really damn GOOD.
The album is a great mix of brutality with clean vocals, cool rhythms and structures, amazing prog riffs and epic keyboards. Sounds refreshing. I really like, how most songs have a different approach. So far my favorites are: Marigold, Lune, The Way the news goes... and Catch Fire
Love this band, but my first reaction to anything they release is usually "Oh god dammit wtf is this faggotry?"
This album is no different. As it currently stands, I think it's the worst thing they've done so far. Though I say that without even being the whole way through my first listen yet...
