Easter Rising 1978 (Live) is taken from a 1978 radio broadcast recording of The Patti Smith Group live performance… "The first one since WNEW kicked us out of their studio," Smith quips, adding "I don't live here or nothing but we honor you for having us on." The set features some of the classic songs from the first 3 albums (Horses, Radio Ethiopia and Easter) as well as cover songs including The Who's The Kids Are Alright, My Generation and The Ronettes' Be My Baby. The set also features a comical version of the 70s top-ten hit "You Light Up My Life." Overall, this album captures Patti Smith and her band as they were early on in her career raw, young and garage-like with lots of witty between-song verbal interludes and improvised poetic flights by Patti, and a clearly receptive audience cheering her on and the band on.
