Though most people dislike Ire it's still a good album. They fell off quite hard after that. AILD, Trivium & ABR are the faces of metalcore.

and it's not because they went for a softer sound - I don't mind change, evolution or whatever new direction a band pursues - but after Ire (which was ok but can't match their previous material) their sound went so bland, boring and just meh.. and the goddamn vocals went from a beast to a christian bale batman wannabe. It's bad. This band meant so much for me in my teenage years, it's sad to see (hear) them end up like this.

Honestly, to me it's not mainly about the sound either. Sure, KwaS and Horizons are a staple and their newer sound is neutered compared to that...I just can't get over the corny, dull lyrics. Early PWD had some issues in this department, but 'Horizons' and 'Deep Blue', heck, even some songs off 'Atlas' were great in the lyrics department. Don't remember which interview it was, but I remember how somewhat recently Winston was touting their new songs as the most 'mature' in terms of lyricism or something like that. Dude's smoking a bowl of copium and kool aid in one.

Listening to the album, I'm willing to disagree. I do think that the album has enough strong points to stand as solid release, and even with such strong discography as Parkway Drive has. It may have a bit more weaker sides than best PD albums, similarly how "Reverence" was lacking some depth, but this does not change the fact that I enjoy "Darker Still" musically, and lyrically it does have good points as well. It reminds me a lot about "Ira", it does go in similar melodic/rhythmic path, but with less heavy blasting. It may be me seeing bands more outside of scope (so I don't have issues with separating past from current, personas from 'project/band') and being generally more tolerant because of my weirdly broad taste, but I dunno, I hope I can speak in the name of all those who enjoyed the album. Sadly criticism seems to take a major stand here (not saying that it is not allowed, I'm more like empathetic towards your disappointment, would love to share my fulfilment).

Well if I grew up listening to hard rock/heavy metal than after hearing my brother listening to Parkway Drive I fell in love, seeing them live few times, owning all their records and other merch like t-shirts, shorts, jumpers and spent hours listening to their music I feel justified to criticize the direction and sound they choose.

Cara, eu entendo o caminho que escolheram, mas pra mim não bateu, faz parte também, não tem como agradar todos ao mesmo tempo. Sobre o TDWP, eu acompanho também, estão mais "pop", o Mike encontrou aquele vocal que fica bom na maioria das vezes, e vida que segue haha
