I wonder how many of you have ever taken the trouble to
get a good close up look at this wonderful country of ours.
If you're planning a vacation, let me make a suggestion.
You couldn't do better than jump into the family car and
just travel as far across this magnificent land as you can.
I've been fortunate enough to have traveled all over the world.
I've seen the peaks of the tallest mountains in Europe,
I've gone swimming in the crystal blue water of the Mediterranean and
I've gone shopping with my wife Ruth in the
exotic Ginza of Tokyo, but you know something?
I've never been to a country as fascinating as this one.
We've got right here in America all of the variety races all the
richness of ideas,
all the depth of culture that you could ever
find by traveling to Africa, Europe and Asia.
And we've got something else,
I think we've got the friendliest folks in the world.
Sometimes I hear sour face phoenix
singer sings Americans what they used to be.
And this country have seen its best days.
don't you believe it.
After this break,
I'd like to tell you a touching story
that illustrates what I'm talking about.
There's a rumor around to the effect that American
lost their friendliness and concern to one another.
I don't believe it for a minute.
Our grant were not always articulate in expressing what's in
their hearts but that doesn't mean the goodness isn't there.
A friend of mine recently visited a lovely old lady from Virginia.
In a manhattan home for senior citizens.
