The song is about Alicia Scardetta, an ex-girlfriend of lead singer Alan Palomo, who also happened to be the one that named the band. She and Palomo were going to spend an afternoon on acid together, but it fell through, and he wrote this song to apologize to her. In a 2009 interview with Pitchfork, Alan Palomo explained that this song began the Neon Indian project as a whole. It began with the song “Should Have Taken Acid With You”.
