Nayyara Noor is one of the greatest singers of Urdu poetry. Her name has become synonymous with heavenly hymns of the finest genres of modern Urdu poetry. The best feature of her art is her passion for the literature. Unlike many other famous ghazal singers of her era, Nayyara was not born into a musical family, neither did she get any formal training from a musical maestro or "Ustad". However, she credits her musical talent to her love for Urdu literature and the company of literary friends like Shoaib Hashmi, Muneeza Hashmi, Fahmida Riaz, Arshad Mahmood (her frequent composition partner), and Shaharyar Zaidi (with whom she later got married). Being a direct student of one of the greatest legends of Urdu literature and scholar Faiz Ahmad Faiz has played an important role in Nayyara's formation as the classiest artist.
