In order to get the full effect of this song, you have to watch its music video(Not the one here, the one with Christina Ricci). There aren't too many post-80's music videos that I like. So I don't say that lightly. Music videos are no longer an art form like they were in the 80's. They're just a marketing tool now. But the music video for this song is one the few exceptions. Its simply amazing. As amazing as the song.
Beautiful song, but Moby doesn't deserve all the credit for it. It samples "Trouble So Hard" by American folk singers Vera Hall and Dock Reed. It was first released in the UK, where it peaked at number eleven.
For the album Play, Moby sampled heavily from the collected field recordings of Alan Lomax in songs such as "Honey", "Find My Baby", and "Natural Blues", while the track "Run On" was inspired by the traditional "God's Gonna Cut You Down". (from Wikipedia)
All of the samples he used were put together well, but let us not forget the musicians who sang these amazing songs and gave Moby the most important pieces for his songs.
