One of the most important metal bands? Of course. One of the best mainstream bands? For sure. Those who say Metallica is a "horrible band" are just trying to sound as "uniques". Metallica obviously has bad moments, like St. Anger and Lulu, but call all their discography as "trash" (unfortunely not "thrash") is just stupidity or ignorance.

I think its ignorant. Metallica is definitely one of the greatest thrash bands in history, 4 masterpieces in the 80's, but everyone will only remember Lars greedy for money, James' alcoholism and the band's current poor form. They were great, no one can take that away from them. I needed years and maturity to gain respect and love for them. What can I say? There is no reason to assume that they will ever record an album at least at the level of a black album. It is worth approaching them with an open mind and being grateful for what they did for music. Regards!

I agree with you, people need to approaching with an open mind and (now in my opinion) accept that they changed, they won't come back to what they were, they still searching a new way for their "new" formation, and sometimes these changes take a time, like Sepultura after Max left, they found themselves only in "Machine Messiah", 20 years after "Roots". And it's not like they don't have good albums after the black album, they did, like "Death Magnetic" or "Hardwired...To Self-Destruct". Obviously they aren't in the same level as Master of Puppets, but still good albums, a 6 or 7 albums.

Dave wrote every single riff on the first 4 albums, everything is dave, they are just a stupid cockrock band without Dave. There is no Metal in lica its all Davetallica. They should change name to Cockllica now.

Do you mind not going through the archives of my brain and making random associations?

I just saw Metallica live for the first time, and it was one of the best concerts I've ever been to 🤘🏻it's a vile lie that they can't play live anymore, the band sounded great tbh and James can still sing

Metallica was my first big concert I ever went to. Damn, that was 21 years ago. People were already bitching about them back then, too. Saw them again the year later, but didn't have the chance to go to another show of theirs since then. Great to hear that you had a good time!

Amazing that Metallica released one of their best albums 40 years ago. Happy 40th anniversary to Ride the Lightning!

i love kill 'em all, i love ride the lightning, and i love master of puppets (the first cd i ever owned), but ...and justice for all is my favorite album of all time. i'm not saying this is definitive or anything, it's just how i feel after like 35 years. (i'm 44 as i post this.)

There should be another Metallica parody band called Meatallica where they have songs about meats.

'...And Justice for All' is one of my favorite albums of all time. To anyone reading this: what's a progressive thrash album similar in sound and scope? I like prog metal bands (Tool, Queensrÿche, Dream Theater, etc.), but I'm looking for prog thrash albums SPECIFICALLY emulating AJFA; it could be copying its sound to the point where it's derivative, I don't care, I'd like more of this sound. Bandcamp, Spotify... whatever, it's all good. Thanks in advance.

Which album after Black Album do you like most? I mean Load until now. Load is very good honestly.

The band that has been perhaps the most monumental in getting me into heavy metal save for Sabbath, I have fond memories of being introduced to Metallica since I was 9 or so listening to The Black Album and Justice with my dad who is no longer around sadly. I don't think I would've gotten to known the least bit about metal music as a whole if it wasn't for these guys.

Day 3 is complete! From "Hardwired" to "Inamorata." Three non-stop days of Metallica; 150 songs (incuding the two originals from "S&M," "I Disappear" and "Garage Inc."); about 15 straight hours of Metallica's entire studio discography. It's been a blast, and I'm looking forward to listening to something else.
