• Five albums that has inspired me

    Albums that has meant a lot for the way I look at music today, as well as for how I play and compose my own music.

    * Nightwish - Oceanborn (1998)
    Still one of the best metal albums whatsoever. It is purely ingenious, and without it... Well, symphonic metal wouldn't be as it is today. Also, it was the album that made me understand that metal is more than hitting a guitar and screaming. Lots of my lyrics and ideas to songs are inspired by this album.
    * Hans Zimmer - Pirates of the Carribean III: At World's End (2007)
    Hans Zimmer is one of my major influences and a great composer. I have only heard (listened to more than ten times per track) five of his soundtracks, yet this stands out from the rest clearly. Lots of exotic instruments, lots of wonderful ideas. You really understand how much Zimmer loves this.
    * Dream Theater - Octavarium (2004)
    Less is more? No way! More is less... no wait. But anyway, this album rocks, as do the band. …

    On the owning of music...

    ███There is an endless discussion in most of the metal "community" about weather or not people should download music. The ones that do it support their cause, while the ones that don't claim that doing it is a terrible offence against the band that creates the music we mere mortals listen to.

    ███It seems like metalheads--especially those that regard metal to be "their life", and who literally worship the bands they prefer--even though they claim to be either open-minded or so "hardcore" that nothing will truly disturb them, will certainly snap when they find out a person downloads music rather than buying it.

    ███They simply can't understand how someone, anyone, could choose not to support the artists that create the music they claim to love so much. How could people fall so low, be so pathetic and feeble!? How?

    ███Now, I don't exactly believe owning CDs isn't better than downloading ripped mp3's with slightly inferior quality to that of the actual record; furthermore…

    The idea is to go to the page of your number one artist, and follow the link of it's number one similar artist, then repeating that for this artist and so on, noting down each artist as you go. Do this until you've got to 50 artists (not including your number one). If you get any repeats, just go to the second similar artist or the nearest one that you haven't already had.

    okay. number 1 artist for the week is: (i'm doing the artist of the week because my overall artist is Yellowcard but i'm kind of getting tired. hee.)
