Biography

Mayhew the Traitor was a 3-piece / band from Macomb, Illinois, United States.

Made up of vocalist/guitarist Matthew Hobler, bassist/backing vocalist Andrew Menschel, and drummer JW Robb; the band released their only album 'Deathwish' in 2008. The release received critical acclaim from the independent press, with commentators praising the haunting melodies and rich songwriting, with Jared Grabb saying "Deathwish is the sad and painful story of a modest man seeking love and salvation only to be greeted with defeat."

A remastered version of the album was released digitally in 2015 through Bandcamp.

In May 2018, Hobler was diagnosed with stomach cancer, and immediately went into treatment. He died at the end of July, less than two months later.

Matthew Hobler performed in duo Native Land with his wife, Jess Von Strantz until his death.
